Gigi has very fond memories of this poem by e e cummings, and the night that she and Oscar spent reading their favorite poems to each other for hour after hour. She had never heard it before, until Oscar read it to her, and she never would have pegged e e cummings for a romantic poet… Favorite Romantic Poem #9 “May I feel said he” be e.e. cummings (Oscar’s choice) – continue reading…
Favorite Romantic Poem #8: Jean-Claude’s choice
So why does Jean-Claude make Gigi’s heart go pitter patter? Because of the things he says to her… When I asked him which was his favorite romantic poem, he didn’t choose a famous classical one, or a good modern one. Nope. My baby chose MY poem. The one I wrote for him!! That’s my baby… Favorite Romantic Poem #8: Jean-Claude’s choice – continue reading…
Favorite Romantic Poem #7: “Tears, Idle Tears” by Lord Alfred Tennyson (Gigi’s choice)
This has always been one of Gigi’s favorite romantic poems, albeit a very sad one. But love as we all know is not always happy… It is a classical poem written by Lord Alfred Tennyson, and when Gigi was young, she had a poster of this poem, and she would look at it and cry when her heart was aching. Gigi had forgotten all about this poem that she read long ago in high school, and it was also a favorite of Camille’s (so Gigi told her to please choose another for an upcoming week!!). Lord Byron wrote such beautiful poetry, and had quite an interesting life… kind of like Gigi!! Favorite Romantic Poem #4: “She Walks in Beauty” by Lord Byron (Angela’s choice) – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #2: “Doubt thou” by Shakespeare
For our second romantic poem, I am choosing a very short, but beautiful poem by Shakespeare.
William Shakespeare 1564-1616
Doubt thou the stars are fire
Doubt that the sun doth move
Doubt truth to be a liar
But never doubt I love.
Favorite Romantic Poem #1: How do I love thee?
Gigi received a very classical and British education in Mallorca, Spain. Her high school was run by a very educated couple, graduates of Oxford and Cambridge, and they instilled a love in Gigi for literature and poetry. I cannot believe it took me this long to start a category for favorite romantic poems. Since adding poems each week, written by local Detroit poets, Gigi thought it would be nice to add classical love poems also. She has many favorites, so it will be a long time before she runs out.
