Favorite Romantic Poem #17: “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll

  • November 18, 2010 at 8:14 pm

Tina’s favorite poem is one that has always stumped Gigi: “The Jabberwockey”
Trying to write about it in high school, when it is made up language always drove her crazy lol!! Personally, I think that Lewis Carroll wrote it in complete jibberish to laugh at anyone trying to make sense of it!! Favorite Romantic Poem #17: “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #16: “Heart we will forget him” by Emily Dickinson

Heart, we will forget him
a poem by Emily Dickinson

In the last 20 something years, Gigi has had to get over serious heart ache a few times in her life. When she has loved deeply, and lost, she tends to wallow in sadness for a while, crying and listening to sad songs, and writing sad poetry. When she has lost someone whom she thought she cared about, but realized at the end, that it was just a fantasy, then it was much easier to move on. Such is the case with Jean-Claude. He was never real, just a figment of Gigi’s hopeful imagination. He was never whom she thought he was… so getting over him is a piece of cake… and Gigi already has her eyes on someone new (and is it mean of Gigi to hope that Jean-Claude is reading this?). The first romantic poem that I chose was “How do I love thee” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Here is one written by the man she loved who also wrote love poems for her. Amy had a choice for all the favorites this week, except for a poem, so Gigi chose among her many favorites… an old romantic classic by a wonderful Scottish poet. Favorite Romantic Poem #14: “A red red rose” by Robert Burns – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #13: Sonnet 130 by Shakespeare

  • September 23, 2010 at 10:17 pm

Yet again Rose surprised Gigi with her classical choice of a poem. Gigi knows quite a few of Shakespeare’s sonnets, but not all of them. This is one that she is not as familiar with. But like most of his sonnets, it is lyrical and beautiful, and just what poetry should be. Favorite Romantic Poem #13: Sonnet 130 by Shakespeare – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #12: “Balances” by Nikki Giovanni

  • September 19, 2010 at 8:45 pm

This week’s favorite romantic poem comes to us from Marc Mannheimer, who is one of Gigi’s authors on Troubadour 21. He writes great short stories for her, and he gave her his permission to post his real name and a direct link to his stories. Gigi tries to give everyone the privacy an alias can provide 🙂 Favorite Romantic Poem #12: “Balances” by Nikki Giovanni – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #11: “The Goops” by Gillette Burgess

  • September 10, 2010 at 6:44 pm

Yet another friend that Gigi has made on face book is Winnie. She adds comments on most blogs these days, and Gigi is ever grateful and amused by Winnie’s quirky sense of humor. She is also one of the many of Gigi’s friends who grew up in Mallorca, Spain, and she is actually lucky enough to still live there. Winnie shared her favorites with us, and we are starting them off with her off-the-wall choice of a romantic poem. But hey, Gigi posts them as she gets them 🙂 Favorite Romantic Poem #11: “The Goops” by Gillette Burgess – continue reading…

Favorite Romantic Poem #10: “Come to me in my dreams” by Matthew Arnold

  • September 3, 2010 at 8:50 pm

Gigi chose the romantic poem this week since, Marshall didn’t give her one. Gigi has as many favorite poems as she does bad dates stories!! It must be thanks to the classical British education she received. Favorite Romantic Poem #10: “Come to me in my dreams” by Matthew Arnold – continue reading…
