Favorite Romantic Vacation Spots #8: Tuscany

Gigi went to Italy on her honeymoon and loved it. Her favorites were Florence and Venice. She would never have thought of visiting Tuscany, but after watching the movie, “Under the Tuscan Sun” a few years ago on Tuscany, it has moved to the top of her list of places to visit (Yes, it is a very long list!!). By the way, this is a great movie, and should be on our favorite movie list one day.

Tawny’s suggestion on a romantic place was originally a secluded cabin in the woods, but we already wrote a blog articke on that, so her next choice was Tuscany (or anywhere in the Mediterranean). Tawny went home to Mallorca, Spain with Gigi once and fell in love with it, and if Gigi is not mistaken Tawny has been back since. She loves travelling, and does so on her own or with friends.

Anyplace in Italy would be romantic in my eyes. There’s beautiful scenery, historical places, unique architecture, quaint little towns, friendly people and amazing food. Even walking around the towns is a romantic and special event.

If you love wine, and visiting vineyards and sampling there, then Tuscany is the place for you.

Gigi has never been to Tuscany, so rather than make up stuff, she googled it (God, I love the Internet!!). Here is what she found out about Tuscany:

So you’ve probably read up on all the things there are to SEE in Tuscany but how about the things to DO? A vacation in Tuscany offers so very much, from the experience of standing below Renaissance palaces, impressive monuments and Romanesque churches built hundreds and hundreds of years ago to the wonderment of seeing in person masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo and many other greats.

But after you’ve been to a few museums and admiring the works of art, it all sort of starts to look the same, right? We’ve been there, too, so we know how it can be! We suggest you read about and consider including a few other activities in addition to sightseeing that will make your holiday in Tuscany memorable!

How about renting a bike and exploring the hills and villages in Chianti? How about spending a morning learning about wines and tasting great Tuscan wines such as Brunello, Montepulciano, Vernaccia di San Gimignano and Chianti? How about spending a morning or afternoon in the kitchen, learning a few select, choice Tuscan recipes that you can enjoy immediately thereafter? How about exploring the Tuscan countryside on foot on a day hike? We have these and many more suggestions so keep on reading!

Gigi is so in!! Adding this to the places I’ll visit when Helen and I are rich!!

Gigi, I have never made it back to Spain, but I did get to tour Italy for 11 days from Rome up through Tuscany, Florence, Porto Fino and Milan. LOVED IT! I can see how the area would be extremely romantic.

Also the movie Under the Tuscan Sun was what motivated me to book the trip, but don’t bother with the book, it isn’t even like the movie and really boring.
